Hand sanding is what finishes the work a machine can't reach — mouldings, rebates, the inside of a frame, and the final pass where you want to feel the surface rather than trust a tool to it. Sanding blocks come in a 69 × 98 mm body in 36 through 220 grit, coarse enough to shape and fine enough to prepare for finish. Abrasive rolls run 115 mm wide in 25 metre lengths from P120 to P600, on a soft backing that follows a profile instead of bridging it — tear off what you need and wrap it round a moulding or your own block. The denibber deals with the raised grain and dust nibs that appear after the first coat, which is the point at which most jobs either get properly flat or don't.
